Chris Inglis probably never thought he'd see his black cat, Ted again. Ted had been implanted with a microchip way back when the technology was new. But when he jumped out of a window and vanished, it was 10 long years before he was found. Since the Inglis' moved in the meantime, I suppose hope was given up long ago. No one knows where Ted spent those years, but he appeared to be well taken care of. By a quirk of fate, he ended up in a shelter abou 13 miles south of Inglis' former home, where his microchip was read, and Ted was returned to Chris. Read more of the story, and see a photo of the reunited cat and family, as reported by CNN.com.
Since Ted was named after a character in "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure," maybe he decided to have an adventure of his own.
This story illustrates the importance of microchipping or otherwise permanently identifying your cat. Collars and tags may fall off or be removed, and without his Chip, Ted would now be among the 96% of owned cats in shelters that are never reunited with their owners.
