A new GPS tracking device for dogs has come on the market, and all indications are that a similar device will be available for cats as early as next year.
A tiny modem, which is attached to a dog's collar, sends out a text message to a cellphone, PDA, or other two-way wireless device, whenever the dog leaves any predetermined boundaries. Not only is the owner notified, but the receiver gives directions, and even maps, with certain cellphones, for finding the dog.
This device is far superior to the clunky Mobile Locator I featured a couple of years ago. But until the unit for cats is available, it behooves us to identify our cats with microchips and collars, and we will still need to do some door-knocking when a cat turns up missing.

I tried the navistarusa.com product(s) and it worked great for my kid / pets. The only thing I would have to complain about would be shipping time. Other then that Its great to know how fast technology is growing.

Im in the UK and ordered with NaviStarUSA.com took a while to ship but the device works great. Lost her 3 times and found her all 3 times .. less then an hour.
I’m from the UK and am looking for some kind of GPS tracking device for our cat. apart from http://www.loc8tor.com I’ve also come across this site whcih does look promising – Track my Cat GPS System. The device looks as though its fairly lightweight (35g) and is waterproof. I can’t tell yet but it looks as though they indend to show the location of your cat on a google map…
David, I checked out the site you mentioned. While it sounds interesting, it is clear that they are not going to be producing the units until a)They get enough “registrations of interest” (the linked page has not yet been built), and b)They find out how much money people would be willing to pay for such a device (per the poll on the main page.)
I’m sure not going to hold my breath.

Secure-A-Pet has a device on the market that is suitable for large cats. GPS for pets looks like it’s becoming much more viable. They offer service over most of the US.
well im a 11 years old and well my paw paw goes hoghunting and his tracker is bad and we go th wrong way to the dogs so im just looking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
