June is Adopt a Shelter Cat Month
Wednesday June 15, 2005
In case you missed it, June is the official Adopt a Cat Month, or more specifically, .Adopt a Shelter Cat Month, sponsored each year by the ASPCA.“Spring and summer are the times of year when animal shelters are often overflowing with cats of all ages, sizes, and colors,” says Edwin Sayres, president and CEO of the ASPCA. “We want to help raise awareness of this month in a fun way in order to bring home the reality that these cats need safe and loving homes. By adopting a feline friend, not only are you giving a shelter cat a second chance, but you will also have a lifelong companion who will bring many years of love and devotion to your family.”
Amen to that. Here in my home, we have four cats: three adopted through rescue groups and one found abandoned as a kitten. I urge you to do your own one-stop-shopping at your local shelter. At this time of year, you'll find a huge selection of cats of every age. Consider adopting a pair or more. I promise you won't regret it, and your life will be enriched, as mine is. The winsome little silver guy pictured here is our Billy, as a kitten in a rescue foster home. He's grown to be a fat, sassy, gorgeous cat at two, and we expect to enjoy him for many, many more years.
