National Hairball Day Has Come and Gone
Wednesday May 3, 2006
(But hairballs are with us every day!)
A couple of publications mentioned National Hairball Awareness Day, but I enjoyed the one from the Philadelphia Inquirer best.
Although hairballs (and the cats that hurl them) are the butt of many jokes among aireophiles, they are not always laughing matters to the cats. Hairballs can cause intestinal blockage, which sometimes has to be treated surgically. Although there is some question about the "official" date of National Hairball Awareness Day, it is important for all of us to be aware of hairballs and their effects on our cats.
The easiest way to prevent hairballs? Brush, brush, brush!
More information on the cause and relief of hairballs can be found in "The Ubiquitous Hairball."
