Catching the View: Free Cat Quilt Pattern
Saturday June 3, 2006
Janet Wickell, Guide to Quilting for About.com, has created a beautiful cat quilt/wall hanging for cat lovers who also love to quilt. The pattern calls for about two yards of fabric for the "window frames," a yard of fabric for the backing, and the Monet-like flower garden outdoors can be created with scraps of colorful flower prints. The three cats gazing out the window at the garden are the icing on the cake for confirmed cat lovers. This quilt might be a bit too involved for a beginning quilter, but it's a goal well worth pursuing. If you are a beginner, Janet has loads of information on her site, created with you in mind. Take the time to join her forum too; there are a number of cat lovers there, who will be eager to show you photos of their own cat quilts. It won't be long before you'll be happily stitching away on the Catching the View quilt!
The image at right shows the bottom right portion of this stunning quilt, with one of the three cats admiring the view and a "plain" garden window block to the right of it (as if anything in this quilt could be described as "plain.)" Photo © Janet Wickell; used with permission.

That makes me wish I was a quilter — it is really gorgeous. Of course, it could have something to do with the color of the cat!
