Menu Foods: NO Expanded Recall List
Monday March 26, 2007
Today, Menu Foods issued another press release, clarifying the press release of 3/24/07. The company has not expanded the list to include foods other than those on the original list. According to the P/R, "This step did not expand the recall but provided the remaining retailers with an efficient means of withdrawing the recalled product. The full recall list is available at www.menufoods.com.
In addition, Menu Foods reiterated that there is no evidence of any problems in any products manufactured at either its Streetsville, Ontario, facility or its North Sioux City, South Dakota, facility. Furthermore, there is no evidence of problems in any of the products not on the recall list produced at Emporia, Kansas, or Pennsauken, New Jersey."

Thanks for the update. I’ll pass it along to my kitty friends. About.com is always on top of things!
Love, Monkers
I commented on another entry about this, and now hearing this it only makes me trust the company even less!!!
Why would someone at their offices tell me they were expanding the list? That makes no sense to me at all!
I also can not believe it is merely coincidence that one of my cats died, and several others had massive vomiting from cans made by them…that are not on the list.
The handling of this incident by this company has been questionable from the very beginning, and I for one refuse to believe a word they say!!!
Every single can I had of Special Kitty (all produced by Menu Foods) was returned to my Wal-Mart yesterday. They were nice and didn’t ask any questions, and promptly refunded my money.
Honestly, if I had the means, I would have preferred to have taken the food to be tested on my own, just to know for sure. Although it still wouldn’t mean that a previous can I had used wasn’t a poisoned one.
Perhaps I’m going overboard in my criticalness of this company, but considering lives have been lost…I make no apologies for me feelings in this matter.
The only other thing I can say, is that I am with 100’s of other people and am seriously considering making my own cat food!
Dry food being recalled now?
I just heard that there may be a recall of dry cat food as well. About two years ago, my male cat almost died on me after developing uncontrolled vomiting for almost a week, and cost me a fortune in vet bills. No cause was ever found, but IV fluids and medication helped to stop it thank god. Funny thing is a few months ago, he started vomiting profusely after I opened a new bag of Purina Sensitive Systems, (although he is the one with the delicate tummy, this was far more then usual),then the other cat began to vomit as well. I disposed of the bag, but wondered what was going on, and made the assumption i had perhaps gotten a ’spoiled’ bag. I’m also not sure if they have determined that its POSTIVELY the wheat glutin. If so, the Sensitive Systems uses corn gluten. I’m so confused, but i wont risk my ‘babies’. These cats will ONLY eat dry food, and i’m going to go hunting for an organic type. Does anyone have any suggestions?
For Annette: One good choice for dry kibble is Felidae, which is what I feed my 6 fur-babies. It is all-natural, and contains natural digestive enzymes- great for kitties with sensitive tummies! They make their reg. formula, and a chicken & rice one. There is also Serengeti, and Innova Evo. These use potato starch instead of grain, though I haven’t done any research on how cats handle potato as a carb. They are very high on the glucose index.
Hello! Good Site! Thanks you! fvxnlsjmnjddr
