Franny,
Once again, thank you for helping us to keep on top of this recall. My head is spinning from all the changes and updates and recalls of the past few weeks! This site and the forums have been helping to keep me sane.
Thank you. I manage some ferals and my own 12 year old young lady and the last thing I want is to damage or hurt them!
Thanks for posting this new info. Scary times!
It’s difficult to keep up with the recalls, so this information is really appreciated!
I find it totally appalling that Menu Foods’ only method of testing tainted food was to feed and subsequently kill 16 animals.
Lucky for us that Memu Foods doesn’t produce human food. If they did they could test on themselves. Its probably the only honorable thing that they could do at this time.
Thank you for keeping track of this stuff. How long do you think it will be before we see Menu Foods closed down for good and the provider of the tainted wheat gluten prosecuted?
Thank you for the info. The industry has been so secretive about this that I don’t know who to trust or buy. I think I’ll start making my own food for my cat. It can’t be any more dangerous.
Check out Nature’s Variety line of feline and canine foods. They have no wheat or wheat gluten in any of their products, dry or canned.
I’m so pleased my cat who I love dearly and is a constant companion, because I work from home, absolutely loves Purina Cat Chow, the dry food.
He’s four years old and over the four years I’ve discussed his food with a number of vets all of whom have said this is a complete and perfectly good food for cats. Well, it’s also less pricey than some, so that have been good too. …was just an FYI if searching for a cat food until all of this horrible food problem is over. Now, I wonder what’s next for us and our pets with food.
Thank God This site is here so I can convey This message I just sent to the FDA. I ask them to please add this cat food to their list of cat food because I have NOT seen it listed anywhere and it KILLED MY CAT!
I told them to fact check my report, have it tested, The 3rd ingredient in it is WHEAT GLUTEN! But understand I bought it and he ate it BEFORE the reports and warnings came out!!
He was healthy and happy, even though he was 10 yrs. old.
For the past 5 years or more I only fed him “dry” food; He grew up liking the kind that “KILLED” him. right before Christmas Petsmart had it on sale so I bought him about 20 cans thinking I was being nice! He ate maybe 6 cans before he got real sick.
The name of the can cat food is 9 Lives Tender Slices with Real Veal in Gravy made by DEL MONTE FOODS
The 3rd ingredient is WHEAT GLUTEN; which I found out after he was dead and buried. The urine that ran out of him when he passed away was a horrible smell! And I’ve had a very old cat to die in front of me before that did NOT SMELL! Please send this name brand to every list and “Check your labels”….
He may have been the first cat to die.
He died almost before I knew he was that sick.
This site is so valuable and informative. Thank you so much. This is a terrible situation and should never have happened. I was shocked to see that Menu Foods tested on animals and why do they buy wheat gluten from China?
For many years now I have only fed my cats food that does not contain any animal by products or corn. I have a cat that has a very sensitive tummy and have been feeding my two cats natural balance venison formula that uses “people” grade foods and it does not contain animal by products and no grains. Anyone interested in learning more about animal by products go to this site http://www.aplus-flint-river-ranch.com/define-animal-byproducts.php and another site for feeding guidelines http://www.fda.gov/fdac/features/2001/301_pet.html I am very glad that I have refused to feed my beloved pets anything other than foods that I would eat myself!
They buy it from China because cheap=profit which is their bottom line!
THIS WHOLE SITUATION HAS BEEN VERY SCARY AND HORRIBLE. THANK YOU FOR KEEPING ON TOP OF THE CHANGES FOR ALL OF US CONCERNED ANIMAL LOVERS.
My cat ate a half can of Nutro Max Orleans Seafood Jumbalaya on approximately March 30th and vomited up blood. I called my vet and they told me that the cause was not from the pet food recall and since he was not acting sick, not to worry. Now I read that it has been recalled. At that time I gathered up all the nutra max cat food with gravey and took it back to the Pet Club on the 8th of April. They said they had not had a single complaint about it. They probably put it back on the shelf. This makes me really angry. My cat is OK but this is not acceptable!
One more thing, the following Saturday, March 24, my cat Misty (who is 17 and sickly) at Fancy Feast Beef with Gravy – not sure of the exact name – it was purple can, and vomited up blood and foam all over the place. She was very lathargic – looked like she was going to die. I gave her subqtanious fluids and she began to snap out of it. She had approximately 1/2 3 oz can. By the next morning she had fully recovered. I will not give my cats any canned food with gravey because I don’t think we have been told the extent of the contamination. Again, I am so angry and also don’t trust anyone in the pet industry.
I decided about eight months ago that I was going to switch my dogs from Eukanuba to Dick Van Patten’s Natural Balance foods. The primary reason was because I had a dog who LOVED fish and they make a wonderful salmon dog food. I was lucky to have just missed their line of foods that were contaminated because I DID feed them some of those that were recalled.
Natural Balance makes a line of holistic AND organic foods and more importantly, now more than ever, they have NEVER had a recall on any of their products.
I don’t work for the company and I’m not trying to sell the brand over any other, but I absolutely LOVE their foods! You KNOW what’s in the food because it’s written in English! The ingredients list is short and sweet. Their canned foods use all the same ingredients as their dry foods, so there’s no guessing what’s REALLY in the food.
They also make a great cat food! I would love to see more foods like this brand on the market and I hope everyone out there with a cat or dog supports this notion, too.
Natural Balance has now recalled: Venison & Brown Rice Dry Dog Food and Venison & Green Pea Dry Cat Food.
Hello,
I shall never feed any menu foods
to my animals.
1st Choice, is produced in Boucherville,
Quebec, Canada, and since i have switched to this new diet, my dog has
gained a few pounds…It has no
wheat gluten, and we must ensure that
the FDA becomes absolutely responsible
in supervising our pets’ foods.
Governments must regulate those companies who make millions in this
market, and must ensure that they are
responsible for the safe, and well-
being of our beloved friends, and
companions.
The two Ontario plants were not
sterilized when menu foods resumed producing foods – scandalous.
