Blue Buffalo Recalls Kitten Spa Select Food
Friday April 20, 2007
The Blue Buffalo Pet Food Company has announced the recall of one of their cat food lines: Spa Select Kitten Dry Food. The notice, posted as a window notice on the company's main page, clarifies:
- The production code on the recalled product is: "Best Used By Mar. 07 08 B."
We have taken this action because the rice protein concentrate used for this one production run was obtained from Wilbur-Ellis, the same company who supplied this ingredient to Natural Balance. Test results received late last evening (4/18) indicated that this rice protein concentrate tested positive for melamine. This is the first and only time our manufacturing partner sourced an ingredient from Wilbur-Ellis, and we had no knowledge that they had imported the ingredient from China.
We have advised the FDA of this finding and will be working closely with them on this issue.

Comments
Since the Chinese gov’t is blocking the FDA from inspecting their plants, I propose that we boycott all products made in China.
The septic tank seems to have no bottom…Why am I not surprised.
We trusted your website that you made all the foods and checked after each run – we switched our 4 dogs and 2 cats over to Blue Buffalo because of this. Now you are recalling also – who can we trust! I e-mailed you last week and you never responded so I doubt you will respond to this – I am very angry to say the least. If any of our pets get sick I am blaming your company. You lied to us. I will tell everyone not to use Blue Buffalo. You should have responded last week when I asked you if you were sure everything was okay.
Nancy,
Please email me directly about the Spa Select Kitten recall. Thanks,
