Black Cat Month - the Perils of Halloween

Monday October 15, 2007
While October may be the favorite month of thousands of humans, who excitedly plan their costumes of spooks, vampires and monsters, in anticipation of Halloween, cats, particularly black cats, have little cause for celebration this month. With all the doorbell ringing, excited children shouting "BOO!" - parties and commotion, it is little wonder that one of our favorite holidays should be stressful for cats. Black cats, who for centuries have been a symbol of this celebration, may be especially at risk.

Pictured here is Misery, a Halloween kitty whose beauty belies her name. Misery celebrates Halloween safely indoors, as should all cats.

I have statues of black cats all over my bedroom. I used to own 2 black cats before my parents bought the 2 golden retrievers hence the handle. One of my black cats died before we got the computer so I was down to our last black cat. He died last year. I was wondering, any good places to get black cat statues or decorations? Thanks, for I have a few in my bedroom, and I cherish them.

When I worked as an adoption counselor at our local humane society we would not adopt out any black or even white cats untill the middle of November just because of what we found out what people did to black and even white cats on Halloween. Low Lifes !!!!!!!!!!11

My black cat, Onyx, will spend Halloween inside where she is safe and loved. She doesn’t like the out of doors anyway.

I have had my black cat, Niko, for almost 4 or 5 years now. I dread halloween and become very protective of him around this time of year. He is an inside/outside cat, and well doesnt like to be forced to stay inside but I force him. Its amazing how sick some people are. I would be devistated if anything ever happened to him.

My parents had a black barn kitty last year that happened to disappear around Halloween last year. I am convinced that the neighbor boy killed her :-( It made me so angry and it broke my heart because she was such a sweet kitten.

I have a black cat “baby” she hates the forced grounding every October but I lost a black cat several years ago around this time and it bothers me so not knowing what happened to her.

I have 2 black cats and everyone says I’m a witch. I’m not. Ijust really like black cats. Their names are Brazil and Salem. Of course Salem. My dad doesn’t like them at all. I plan on taking Salem trick or treating this year.

Well, I worked through to 4am, and got home to find my Black cat Spydar had been left outside and had been hit by a car. You can guess what night it was. She was my pet for longer than I have known my wife. I Miss her

I love cats in general but had a black kitten that my BF gave me one year. Her daughter had already named it scrap since he was soooo tiny. My son was asked one day at school what his pets names were and he had a little speech issue in first grade and the teacher swore he was saying Crap instead of scrap. We had a good laugh…
