The year 2007 has inarguably been an important one for cats. News involving cats has ranged from devastating (the 2007 tainted pet food deaths) to heartwarming (long-distance adoption of a shelter cat), to scientifically exciting. These are my selections of the most important news involving cats.
Aware pet owners will certainly acknowledge that the huge tainted pet food crisis and the massive recall of tons of contaminated pet foods was the single most important story of the year for cats.

This may not be the day to discuss this, but I want to “talk” about my cats. I do believe that non-human beings have souls. My cats are “Freckles”, age 11 and “Zane grey” age 9. Freckles started acting sluggish last Saturday, December 22nd and was actually hiding. His brother and I looked all over our townhouse several times. My two cats “play fight”, but when Zane “attacked” Freckles, Freckles laid on his back and fought a little bit with his front paws. I found it strange that Freckles was on the bottom, it has always been Zane. Freckles stopped after about 15 seconds and turned his head to the side. Zane laid his head on Freckles stomach. I believe that he knew that something was wrong. When I woke up on Christmas Eve day, I put food in their dishes and fresh water. Freckles usually runs into the kitchen before I even finish filling the first dish. On Monday, however, he didn’t. He just laid there, awake. When he finally got up and was walking slowly down the hall to the kitchen. That was when I saw a large bulge in front of his left back leg. He didn’t eat or drink water, he just headed back into the living room and laid down. I felt the area and discovered a large, hard lump. Due to the fact that it was Christmas Eve day, I was afraid that the vet wouldn’t be open, but they were going to be open for another 45 minutes. They kept him there to drain the fluid and test it. It was filled with bacteria. The vet called me Wednesday morning to tll me that they had sedated him and upon doing that she discovered that the tumor was wrapped around the hing leg and hip. The water was turned off the next day so she could not perform the surgery we discussed. She went in this morning and removed the tumor and the leg. I should be able to pick him up on Monday, but will not have the results back until Wednesday or Thursday. I pray that it is benign.
Dear Deb,
Our Cats are our FAMILY, so IT is always the time to talk to us and get things off your chest and share. My heart is breaking for you! Maybe you will get good news and the worst is behind you. I will surely pray for you and your cat!
My heart goes out to you and what better place than Franny’s site is there for you to wrote what you feel.
I wish you happiness for the New Year and please keep us posted.
Lots of Love from my heart and my cats to you and yours,
Eileen from New York
I would like to share my 2007 comment to Franny and her cat site if I may and I am sure you all will agree!
This site is not only wonderful, joyous, entertaining and educational for all of us, but personally has gotten me out of a depression ever since I have found it months and months ago!
It has kept me busy and smiling at all your cat stories, while entering all of mine, and has made me look forward to something different each and every week and it is exciting to wonder when I will see my photos of my cats pop up! Always exciting for me, and all of you, as I can see from all of your feedback!
Where else can we share our stories, express ourselves, show off our babies with pride, talk to people, get feedback from an educational lady like our Franny and have hours of fun and learning?
This site gives me so much and I would be lost without it so I am saying it….
Cats Rule, Franny…. The Best!!

Happy New Year
DEB, I am with you friend!
I enjoy your website very much and wanted to tell you about a cat named Adam in Santa Rosa, California. He was one of a litter of kittens who were safely trapped but before he could be picked up, some teenage girls set him on fire in the cage. Somehow, he survived but was severly burned. If you would like to read his story, the URL is above. Scroll down to Adam’s Story. He is one strong little cat.
Oh Clyda! What a horrible, wonderful story about little Adam. I read it from start to finish, and looked at the picture slide show too, with tears streaming down my face. What an angel from heaven is Theresa Wright, the veterinary nurse who cared for him and eventually adopted him. The only thing I was NOT able to find out was the disposition of the criminal case against the two girls who were charged with burning him.
