The Best Way of Satisfying Cats' Need to ClimbCats are notorious for their need to climb, and they are happier in high places, the higher the better. Cats feel safer from predators at extreme heights, and they have more control over their prey.
If you are tired of seeing your cat on the kitchen counter, or on top of your refrigerator, face it: he needs a climbing tower he can call his own. These are my choices of climbing towers and other cat furniture. I've started with a small number and hope to add more selections based on my readers' recommendations. Feel free to post your own comments below. It would be helpful if you could link to the retailer or manufacturer of your favorite condos.
The pictured tower is a 74" 9-level tower by Amercat, which I purchased at his request for my son's birthday. (You can tell where his loyalties lie.) Our Billy "owns" it and spends hours on the top level, gazing out the window at our neighbors.

Lightweight, modular cat furniture that goes together kind of like tinker toys. I have had the Stairway to Cat Heaven for a couple of years and it has worn pretty well and my cats love it. If pieces do wear out, you can buy just the piece you need to replace. It’s plenty sturdy but light enough to easily move around without taking it apart.
I had cat furniture previously. After the first couple of weeks, The Kitty paid absolutely no attention to it, and I got rid of it after several years of complete cat indifference. I am seriously hesitant about purchasing another thing for her, since she is quite content with sitting on top of my sofa.
I just bought this cat tree not even a month ago and put it in front of our sliding glass door. We’re on the second level of an apartment building and the window faces a huge oak tree. Our cat Taders loves to sit on the top perch which is about eye level and watch the birdies.

I recently got this cat tree. My cat really does like it and I think it looks a lot better in my apartment than the more traditional trees.
