Substances Unsafe for Cats
I'm happy to feature another guest article by Kymythy Schultze, CN, a highly regarded author and feline nutritionist. Kymythy writes today about substances that are harmful to cats in one degree or another. She acknowledges that the list is not exhaustive, but in my opinion, it is sufficiently complete to give pause for thought to conscientious cat owners. Most of us have heard of several of these unsafe substances; others will be new. Kymythy writes:
This is by no means a list of everything on the planet that's bad for cats. But it's a few of the things that should be avoided by themselves or as an ingredient in something else.

Great article. There were some things I’d seen before and others I hadn’t. Honey is one of those I’ve been wondering about.
This is going to be very helpful to me as I am starting a job as a vet assistant at an animal hospital soon. I will take this copy I made and have the Vet go over it with me and discuss everything. Then I can relay it to my patient’s parents.(O; You have a great web site Franny.
Thank you.
Franny,
One item that was not noted and is highly toxic to cats(more often than not fatally toxic) is Tea Tree Oil. It does not have to be ingested topical contact can kill. Veterinary medical intervention is almost always necessary and more often than not ineffective. Please make readers and cat owners aware.
Thanks for your comments, Nuria and Tracy. I’m glad to see that the article helped.
