Algonquin Hotel Feline Fashion Parade
In honor of the 13th birthday of Matilda, the resident cat at the Algonquin, a feline fashion show was on tap yesterday in the hotel's famed Round Table Room. Matilda's celebrity status has garnered her a birthday celebration each year. According to the Algonquin Hotel web page for Matilda, "A memorable one occurred in 2002 when, while celebrating her seventh birthday with 150 of her closest friends, she jumped on her cake and ran out of the room, leaving a trail of paw prints." I hope she didn't play a similar stunt this year, with the special purrrr-tinis sold at $20/per to the human guests.
Yesterday's event involved the North Shore’s Purrrrfect Company therapeutic cats, strutting their stuff in high-society fashions designed by Meow Wear, a New Jersey pet fashion designer. I was sorry to have had to send my "regrets" to the invitation I received, but I hope the event was hugely successful. Personally, I'd probably have enjoyed it more to see the cats in their own natural clothing, rather than dolled up in fashion clothing, but that's just my purrsonal opinion.

Well, it was for a good cause, but… sigh.. *why* do people think it is cute to cover up a cat’s natural beauty with human clothes?!
