July 2008 Cats of the Month: Mira & Roxie

Tuesday August 12, 2008
Calico cats are the most colorful cats of all, and like snowflakes, no two calico cats are the same. Add muted (dilute) shades of black, red, and white, all arranged in unique patterns, and in a roomful of calico girls, you'll find a virtual cornucopia of beauty. It is impossible for anyone to proclaim the most beautiful of the bunch.

Thus was the challenge I gave my readers in voting for the Cat of the Month for July 2008. You rose to the occasion, and I thank you for that. Beyond the beauty of the individual cats, we also consider the quality of the photography and the stories behind the photos. This week's winning cats, Mira and Roxie, were replete in all three areas, and the photo further demonstrated the vast differences which can exist between one calico and another. Jan Lewis's story about her calico girls further described the personality differences that separates one cat from another.

Mira and Roxie moved ahead in the voting early-on and finished with 41% of the total votes. Runner-up Kiki, whose poignant story of rescue touched us all, finished close behind with 36%. Congratulations and thanks to all these beautiful calico cats and to their humans for sharing the glory of caliconess with us. Special congratulations to Jan Lewis, Mira and Roxie.
