Review - Castor and Pollux Natural UltraMix Dry Cat Food

Tuesday November 18, 2008
My local pet food store does not stock Castor & Pollux foods, so I was pleased to receive two free sample packages the last time I ordered online. My test cats sniffed at the bag eagerly the moment it arrived, so I poured some in a dish next to their current premium dry food.

Whether it was just because it was something new, I couldn't say, but they all dove in, and gave it eight paws up, with the exception of one ingredient, which they carefully picked out and deposited on the floor next to the bowl. My rating is just a tad lower, and I'll explain in more detail in the full review.

Bananas? In *cat* food?! How bizarre.

It does seem strange, doesn’t it? I assume the banana chips were added for potassium; I know several manufacturers add blueberries for their antioxidant properties. Who knows, maybe some cats like the bananas, but mine sure didn’t. Even little Jenny carefully picked them out and deposited them by the floor from her private feeding station.

My cat LOVES bananas too - she eats the banana chips first as soon as I re-fill the bowl. This food has improved my poor kitty’s barfing issues tremendously.

Well, “MyThai” (my Siamese male) eats the bananas too! I like the fact the food doesn’t look “burnt” or overcooked like so many other dry cat foods. I have bought several cat foods that say they have all these fruits in them, but you can’t see any fruit. Just a dark brown kibble. This Natural Ultramix, you can actually SEE the fruit! I have a new “multi-topic” forum that has a pet forum section if anyone is interested in discussing all things pets. It’s new, so not many posts, hope to see that change as more people become aware of it. It’s located at:
