While we are comfortable in the security of our cats in our own homes, others are not as fortunate. The
Durham Humane Society in the Toronto area was completely destroyed by a fire, which took the lives of 100 cats. Only nine dogs and two cats were able to be rescued, according to the
City News Story. Officials at the shelter were understandably shocked and devastated. Shelter manager Ruby Richards was quoted as saying, "We're still in shock. We really haven't come to terms with the fact that these animals that we work with day in and day out and love like our own pets are gone."
While nothing can be done for the poor cats who died, the shelter will need to be rebuilt so the Durham Humane Societ can continue its selfless work. Christmas is a time for giving, and I always try to help the less fortunate, as well as my family and friends. I've made a small donation through PayPal, and I hope my readers will consider doing so too. The Durham Humane Society web site has a link to PayPal or donation by credit card.

Thanks so much for posting this. I live about 2 or so hours east of the Toronto region and was almost physically ill when I heard about this tragedy. I actually just made a donation through your link and hope others will contribute as well. Every little bit will help them.
