Cat Breed of the Week: British Shorthair

Tuesday December 30, 2008
The British Shorthair is considered the oldest English breed, and in fact was the only cat to be shown as pedigreed at the first cat shows. The "Brit" is an ideal pet, affectionate "velcro kitties" who will settle near you at every opportunity. Although moderately active, they adapt to any size household, and are particularly good with children and other pets. Truly a perfect family cat.

Submit Your British Shorthair Cat Photo
You may submit your own cat photo of a British Shorthair or any other cat, by using the guidelines on the Photo Submittal page. I plan on creating a new British Shorthair Picture Gallery in the near future, and welcome new pictures. Please write a couple of paragraphs about your Brit, and why s/he enriches your life. We have space for 2400 characters, including spaces, so tell us about your cat!

Very cute kitty, however picture taken inside a plastic bag is not a good message. I would be concerned with a cat that plays in plastic bags, very dangerous.

I am Maximus’s mom and owner. I do appreciate your concern, however I am a veterinary technician and Maximus happens to have jumped into the bag under my direct supervision while I was putting bags away from christmas shopping. The concerns with plastic bags are of course the chemicals which are toxic, suffocation, and ingestion. Rest assured Maximus could not be more loved! It is my business and personal duty to save lives not endanger them.

Nicely put, Carmen. I also see that I neglected to give the photo attribute here. I’ll correct that right away.
