November 2008 Cat of the Month: Sophie

Sophie is a stunning torbie girl, born outside of a feral cat mother. She and her siblings narrowly escaped euthanization, when rescued by a kind woman who had been managing the colony, and taken in by Sue and Mike Todd. Sophie is a wonderful example of the possibilities of feral kittens' successful integration into a loving forever home. Congratulations and thanks to Sue Todd for sharing Sophie's photo and story with us.
Truly, all of November's tortie cats are beautiful girls with wonderful stories. But there was something about Sophie that captured my readers' attention.

what a beautiful cat!!!
Is she emaciated?
No, Vinny, she’s part Oriental of some kind on her mother’s side, and was very tiny and delicate-looking during her initial growth spurts. Her mother and aunts are built like Havanas or classic Siamese, but are torties and calicos in coloring.
Since Sophie’s growth has slowed a bit, she’s filled out somewhat and become much more muscular. I doubt we’ll ever have to worry about excess weight with her, though, due to her body type. She definitely doesn’t resemble her father, who looks like a bulldog wearing a medium-hair-red-tabby suit.
On top of all that, the above photo was taken while she was leaning forward to stare at her younger half-brother, whom we had recently rescued from the colony and who was visiting us with his new mom, so I think your perception is partly affected by the camera angle.
