Cat Picture of the Week: Misty Blue

The beautiful Misty Blue enjoying her annual coconut birthday donut.
I discovered that my cat Misty Blue loves coconut when I became ill and my mom brought me a pot of chicken soup and a coconut custard pie. Misty, who has been my faithful companion for over 16 years, stayed in my bed with me eating what I ate and leaving only to use the litter box for an entire week.
At 16 1/2, Misty's "home base" is her bed next to the computer, which takes up most the space on my desk. I actually have to hold the keyboard with one hand most of the time because there's no room for it, but Misty's by baby and gets what she wants! Misty currently lives with half a dozen friends: Sam, George, Mishu, Quinn O'Bib, Buddy Lee, and Ivy, all of whom are former strays, ferals, and adopted cats. There are so many homeless cats, if you are able to adopt one and maybe safe his/her life, please consider it!
Misty's mom was abandoned by her people when they moved and had her litter at less than a year old. Please remember that it's important to spay and neuter your cats, and that your local shelter can always use food, litter, left over pet medications, and gently used blankets and towels.

Misty is certainly a lovely cat, and Deidre's love for appears to be mutual. I'm always appalled at the insensitivity and cruelty of leaving cats behind when moving and grateful for those kind souls who give those cats the love their "people" should have. I'm also grateful that Deirdre took the time to give a "plug" for shelters who so often end up with these throwaway cats.
Misty's photo appears now in the January Blue Cats Picture Gallery, and next week will take its place in a new 2009 Cat Picture of the Week Gallery. I select our Cat of the Week pictures from photos submitted for various other galleries on this site. All photos must follow the Photo Submittal Guidelines.

What a gorgeous cat. I too take in homeless cats and I’ve found them all to be very loving creatures. My current cat is a grey, but not a homeless cat. She was born to a pregnant cat that I had taken in. So she’s terribly spoilt.
Wow, thanks for the lovely story. Misty is a beauty……
In my opinion, rescued cats make much more devoted companions. I rescued one of my cats from a neighbor who was abusing him, and I get the sense that he’s been grateful ever since.
