Another oddity in the "Now I've Seen Everything" category. MSNBC reports the discovery of a cat in Chongqing, China, which at the age of one year started growing appendages resembling furry wings on both sides of his spine. This is not the first time that winged cats have been found in China, having been reported by the U.K. Telegraph in August of 2008. The MSNBC article concludes:
Veterinary experts said then that despite the hard inner core, the "wings" don't harm cats' quality of life or safety. According to the Telegraph's report, scientists believe the appendages developed due to grooming habits, a genetic defect or a hereditary skin condition.
My biggest fear when I read articles about such oddities as this, is that some greedy backyard breeder will hit on the bright idea of breeding cats such as the winged cats, for fame and fortune.

That kitty looks like an angel … I hope they never develop wings that can fly – it’s hard enough to keep them off the kitchen counter as it is!
