Peek-a-Prize Slideshow

Saturday August 8, 2009

The Peek-a-Prize Toy Box is so fascinating to cats that, when I reviewed it for Smart Cats LLC, I realized that one or two photos were really not sufficient to demonstrate the way this toy arouses and stimulates the naturally inquisitive nature of cats. Peek-a-Prize is not only great for exercise, but is a wonderful training tool for cats in problem-solving. (It also once became a refuge for a live mouse the cats found in the house. Fortunately, I was able to take the Peek-a-Prize outdoors and free the little creature.)

Do cats have fun with it? Follow the slide show and see. The test cats here are my own Jaspurr, Joey, and the star of this feature, our cute little cat, Billy.

I couldn’t wait to buy this for my “kitters”. They played with it for maybe 5 or 10 minutes and now it just gathers dust.

Take heart, Jo! They may hit a phase later on where they can’t get enough of it. My cat figured it out in less than 10 minutes as well, then ignored it for a month. I adopted a second cat, who liked it for about a week (she even put the toys back in when she was done with them), then also ignored it for a while. Suddenly, they’ve both gone back to playing with it, and I keep finding the toys from inside all over the house. Some things that may help: Don’t just stick to the included toys (they are pretty boring, after all). Throw in catnip-laced toys, kitty pom poms, mini-mice, jingly balls, whatever they like to play with normally that will fit, but is big enough to give them something to grab. If they have a large, dry treat they like, such as a catnip ball, you can put that in as well. I even shine a flashlight through the holes for them to chase on occasion. My girls aren’t addicted to it, but, with the little tricks described above, it has become part of their regular play routine.

Well, I know the vowels wouldn’t be interested, because it wouldn’t be at the end of my arm, but I LOVED the slide show!!!
