About.com 2009 Cutest Cat Winner: Chadwick

This has to be one of the most exciting contests I've been involved in, thanks to some very hard work by our Judges' Panel; the contestants' human handlers and campaign managers; and the loyal followers who posted regularly to the Campaign Headquarters, and voted every day for their favorites.

Congratulations to ever-so-cute Chadwick, Mark Spencer, his campaign manager, and Pam, who fosters Chadwick (and rumor has it may be adopting him), for a well-managed campaign. Chadwick may have been a "come-from-behind kid," but he soon found his stride and soared to the lead, which he maintained to the end.

Kudos also to Sophie, the gorgeous Bengal rescue, and to Angie Davidson, for an enthusiastic, clean campaign. It is no surprise that Sophie was the Readers' Choice, an honor in itself.

Special notice to Cinder, the lovely gray tabby who, at 15, was second runner-up against many younger cats. The finalists are now shown in the 2009 Cutest Cat Finalist Gallery in the order of their placement in the final vote

One final thought: It was very gratifying to me when I realized that all these finalists were either rescued cats or adopted from shelters. Each one of them is a living testament to the benefits of shelter adoption. Though contests may come and go, the values in adopting cats from shelters remains a constant.

I want to thank Franny for having this contest and thank her for her great website about cats. Chadwick and the other finalists were indeed very cute and beautiful, but the one thing that struck me about this contest was how all the other cats that didn’t make the finals were also cute. The true winners of this contest are the humans who bond with their cats (or other animals) and change each other’s lives for the better. We need more people like that in this world. Thank you Franny, it was fun! Daniel

Wow! How exciting that Chadwick won! Thanks to all who voted for him. We told him today that he won! I too thought that all the cats were adorable. Chadwick is a special cat and it was so fun to watch the contest and see how he did. Franny, what an awesome website you have. Thanks again! ( Chadwick’s Foster Mother).

Congrats to Chadwick! All of the finalists are cute as buttons, and to make it to the finals is an honor itself. Of course I am a teensy bit biased and think my own Oscar and Sootica are the cutest:)

And also all the finalists and others that were in the contest. ‘A special thanks to Franny’ and also to those that did the judging… it had to be a tough job to the countdown; & then to the Final gallery. You all did wonderful! Best wishes to the winner…as we truely hope this puts you in the top spotlight ‘Chadwick’ for a future home of being spoiled and loved; much like our MamaBoo & Alice has. Congratulations to Chadwick. He’s a beautiful cat. Cinder also did herself proud, particularly for an older cat. I too was very happy to see so many shelter cats and rescues in the contest.

Congrats to every every kittybutt who was featured from day one! I loved looking at their pictures. And congrats to all of you folks who know how to use a camera and compose a photograph, whether by choice or hapenstance. Not in my capabilities. I so enjoy everyone’s efforts. It always brings joy into my life. As does my own sweet little “opera singer.” MEOW?!! NRRRR!!

I really enjoyed this contest and hope to see more. Congrats to all those involved! You’re ALL Winners. I hated to vote for just one, it just didn’t seem fair. They all have a quality I love about them. Thanks for the smiles.

Congratulations Chadwick, we hope you have a fantastic long life in a forever home with a loving owner.

It was great that the contest inadvertently highlighted the plight of rescue kitties too. We enjoyed taking part and think the kitties were all gorgeous – every one a winner!

All the cats were lovely. Never ind that I disagree. The recused cats were all testaments to our need to care for and take responsibility for our feline and canine friends and all other animals.
