What's In Your Cat's Water?
Tuesday October 20, 2009
Most of my readers already know that cats need a source of clear, fresh water at all times. It is vital for helping the kidneys flush out toxins, and for keeping feline body tissues healthy. On the other hand, most people do not know what is in the water they and their cats drink. I didn't either, until some years ago I started studying in depth the annual report my own small community's water department sent to residents. I found that our community's water contained excessive manganese, and in some parts of the town, excessive iron. Through diligence on the part of our town leaders, our water was able to comply with state-required standards. However, I still use bottled water for drinking, and so do my cats.
Learn more about how you can investigate your own community's water. Most cities maintain regular testing, and situations such as I encountered may be rare. However, if you are on well water, or live in a smaller community, it might behoove you to be proactive. The payoff for your cat's health could weigh in the balance.

One of my cats has FUS and give him and the others bottled water. Crystal Gyser b/c its the purest. I tend to get heartburn from drinking regular tap water and drink bottled as much as possible as well. The metrowater has flavors of mint and lemon which is a nice change from the tasteless water.
Sebastian had a little trouble with urinary crystals lately, so we are switching the cats to distilled water. It won’t hurt the others, and, according to a cat health book I have that was written by a vet, distilled water can help keep crystals from recurring because there aren’t even the trace minerals that can be found in tap or regular bottled water.
Have you ever tried to contact Purina regarding cat food. I sent two emails and phoned 3 times. No reply to emails, 3 phone later our lines are busy answer to all calls. Thank you.
I give cider vinegar in my pets water bowls..it helps their body to be less inviting for fleas! I put 1/2 cap in the small bowls, and 1 full cap in the larger bowls. They have been on it now for 3 months…slow going at first, but now they don’t even know it’s in there.
