2009 Tortoiseshell Cats Picture Gallery
Tortoiseshell cats are cloaked in the color of falling leaves in November with their interwoven patterns of red, gold, and black. "Torties" are like potato chips; once you've enjoyed one, you'll want more. Tortie cats are homebodies; they love their families, and are loyal to a "T" to the one who cares for them. Don't be surprised, though, if your tortoiseshell cat shows a streak of sass at times. That tendency is referred to as "tortitude," and is often found also in calico cats.

Yes, I have found that my torties and callies both possess “tortitude”!
My one tortie was brought to me from Georgia at about 7 weeks old after being separated from her mom and sister who all lived outside.
She was named “Muddy” by the person who brought her to me in a carrier on a twelve hour drive with no litter box from Georgia. He thought she was ugly. Her colors were like the muddy clay and muddy waters of Georgia and of course, there was the reference to the famous Muddy Waters.
The little flea-ridden, anemic creature that came out of that crate and was immediately washed down and flea-treated has grown into a large beautiful girl.
She too has a crackly meow and purr and has a lot to say when disgruntled! But she is a lovely soul and I am blessed to have her here with me.
It is nice to see so many other people enjoying their torties. Muddy has only one thing white on her: a whisker. Every now and again, that whisker will disappear but will reappear later on.
