WASHINGTON, March 17, 2010: Postmaster General John E. Potter today unveiled the Animal Rescue: Adopt a Shelter Pet commemorative postage stamps and announced the Stamps to the Rescue promotional campaign. Each year the USPS features stamps for a different cause in its Social Awareness program. The last cause featuring dog and cat stamps was the Spay & Neuter campaign in 2002.

This year, Halo, Purely for Pets and its co-owner, animal advocate Ellen DeGeneres, plan to donate 1 million meals of Halo Spot's Stew to shelter pets awaiting adoption. Halo's program, called Stamps to the Rescue, has a goal of 1 million donated meals to shelter pets. The stamps will not be released until April 30, 2010, however, you can preorder a block of stamps now, at the Stamps to the Rescue website.

You may want to consider this:

Money from these stamps is going to HSUS.
Ellen has not been shy about her support of HSUS.
Money given there will not go to animals in shelters. HSUS’s 2008 tax returns revealed that less than 1/2 of 1 percent of their budget funds a traditional (dog/cat) shelter.
Money given to HSUS goes instead toward lobbying, anti-animal ownership legislation and attorneys.
Please DO NOT BUY these stamps and advise your friends to do the same.

Instead please donate to a local rescue that REALLY helps animals

Not true. No money from the sale of these stamps goes to HSUS. The cost of the stamps is 44 cents regular first class postage and that goes directly and wholly to the USPS.
