By June 29, 2011

Follow me on:

On Monday, June 27, 2011, Nestle Purina announced the voluntary recall of certain dry cat foods because of possible salmonella contamination. All bags had the "Best by" date of August 2012.

  • Cat Chow Naturals Dry Cat Food 6.3 lb.
  • Friskies Grillers Blend Dry Cat Food 3.15 lb.
  • Friskies Grillers Blend Dry Cat Food 16 lb.
According to the Nestlé Purina announcement, "The bags of dry cat food in this recall were distributed in error in February, 2011 to a small number of customers in Colorado, Idaho and Oregon, which may have further distributed the product to other Western states. There have been no consumer complaints and no reports of illness. No additional Purina cat or dog products are involved. Only products which match the "Best By" date and production codes above are involved."

For more information, and instructions in case you have purchased these foods, refer to the Nestlé Purina announcement.

Franny, Thanks for posting this. I live in Washington State and just got a bag of the 3.15 lb from the local shelter’s food bank on Friday (their last bag of cat food) and found that it’s the one on the recall list. Although our cat has eaten it over the last several days and not shown any problems I’m playing it safe and tossing it out and getting her new food. Thanks again for posting this. Without it I would never have known that it had been recalled.

Thanks for always posting these. After loosing a cat to a recall, it is reassuring to know you keep up apprised of these. I don’t think I will ever get over loosing such a young cat to that.
