Cooter is a seven year old polydactyl cat who lives in Hawaii. He was a three-time loser at the shelter because of his biting habits, but that didn't daunt his fourth (and happily, last) adopted family. According to his adopted dad, Rsowders, "Cooter will do almost anything for treats. Cooter is such a ham bone we keep the camera handy and have a ton of pictures of him doing all kinds of crazy stunts." This week's Cool Cat Photo came from the Funniest Cat Pictures Show and Tell gallery.

I just want to rub the tummy XD, so well trained……. (the humans will never know they are trained to dance for their masters)

Love the photo. But—-I really want to know if he still bites and if not, how did you extinguish this behavior? I have a biter too, though he is 16 years old and getting more crotchety with his arthritic hip.

We adopted a biter from a shelter too. I’ve often felt that he just needed a family to understand him. He’s been with us for two years now, and he’s made tremendous progress. He sometimes allows me to carry him around the house and will give me fair warning when he’s had enough. When he does bite, we firmly and loudly say “No!” and walk away. The biting is usually food-inspired or related to his threshold of touch. Being a rescue animal, the only information the shelter had was that he had been abandoned and unfed.
