Happy Birthday to Billy

Billy has come a long way since Asa and I adopted him at 5 months old in 2003. We had seen him and his sisters caged at adoption day in our local pet food store, until finally one day, Billy and one of his sisters were the only ones left. One would never know they were littermates, because she was easily twice as big as he. I'd wanted to adopt him the first day we saw him, but the time wasn't right yet. However, on that fateful day, when I saw Asa striding toward me across the store with a big grin on his face and Billy on his shoulder, I knew that the time was finally right. When we took him to Dr. D. the next morning to have him checked out, the vet estimated his age as about 10 weeks - he only weighed 2.5 pounds. But he had been born at the foster home and we knew that his birthdate was March 5th.

A lot has changed since then. Billy has grown into a fat and sassy adult cat, Asa is now gone - waiting at the Rainbrow Bridge for the rest of us, and our youngest son, Lance, and I have moved to a new home. The past three months have been a period of adjustment for all of us, and I've been so busy that Billy's birthday yesterday slipped right past. We'll more than make up for it now, though, with a nice portion of fish flakes for Billy in lieu of a birthday cake. Happy birthday, sweet Billy, and many, many more!
