Cat Picture of the Week: Puff

By January 6, 2013

Follow me on:

January features Adopted Shelter Kittens for special recognition. The history behind Puff's adoption as a young kitten is so amazing that I did not look any further for my first Cat Picture of the Week for 2013. I'm sure you will agree after you have read his story.

Puff was just a tiny handful of pale golden fluff with the most startling crystal blue eyes when Jim found him at the animal shelter he had stopped in impulsively. He relates that he knew at that minute that Puff needed him just as much as he needed Puff. He brought him home that day and the two of them spent 15 wonderful years of mutual love together. I am unable to show Puff's Cat Picture of the Week page until we have a minimum of three cats. However, you can read his full story in Puff's Adopted Shelter Kittens Show and Tell page. I think you will agree that his Cat Picture of the Week honor is richly deserved.

What a touching story. Our kitties are so much more than pets, they are a part of us and our families. I can see how Puff was this and so much more for you.

What a lovely story! I have had many cats, shelter cats, kitties dropped into my garden, or rescued from rubbish bins, or even from the very portuguese drowning bucket – and each one has been very special, each one has filled my life with joy and given a new, richer dimenasion to my life!

I was shocked when I opened your newsletter and saw the picture of my beloved Puff. Tears rolled from my eyes when I again saw his beautiful blue eyes and thought of our many days and nights together for the fifteen years together. Since I had submitted our story of life together I had gotten two cats from the shelter but they both were too aggressive and attacked Flambe’ my other cat so I had to take them back to the shelter. My apartment was way to small to separate them. The day before Thanksgiving, I visited the Placer SPCA and I saw a beautiful ten week old Lilac Point Himalayan. Unfortunately they had not finished their paperwork on him and it was too late to adopt him. They told me that they were having a special “Black Friday” adoption and they opened up at 4 am. So I got there around 3:45 and there was already around ten people there. I rushed to the kitten room and thank god there was no one else there so I told the receptionist there I had been there before Thanksgiving and saw him and wished to adopt him. So now I am back to two cats. Flambe’ gets along fairly well with Fondu’ but being a kitten he is trying at times but they are pretty good friends already. Being 62, I realize that I should try to find someone who would wish to take the two of them when something should happen to me. Thank you Franny for the memories you brought back to me.

Jim, I apologize for failing to notify you in a timely manner. I’ll definitely let you know once the actual 2013 Cat Pictures of the Week Album is online – in a couple more weeks. In the meantime, do consider submitting a photo of Fondu’, since he is also a kitten.
I like the names you’ve chosen for your cats. I’m glad to see that your two cats are getting along well now. Yes, it’s important to plan ahead for the eventuality of our own illness or passing. I have a trust set up for my cats so that they will have a home for
life when my son and I are both gone. There is an article on my site which discusses that eventuality: What Happens to Tiger if You Die?. It also makes a strong case for older people adopting
older cats.
