As most responsible cat lovers know, February is Spay and Neuter Month and today is World Spay Day 2013. In recent years, the HSUS has taken up the cause, started years ago by the Doris Day Animal League, and formerly called "Spay Day USA."

You'll find dozens of resources on the HSUS site for the month-long campaign. There are many ways you can contribute to this effort, starting with spaying and neutering your own cats. If you are short on funds, you can find low-cost spay-neuter clinics nationwide.
If you have already done that, advocate with your friends who haven't. Put bumper stickers on your vehicles. Join the pro spay & neuter members of the cats forum in educating new members. If you feed feral cats, borrow a trap and have them spayed and neutered. Enlist the help of a local TNR group or cat rescue organization. While it may "take a village" to raise a child, it definitely takes a world to overcome the extreme dog and cat overpopulation problem we've been fighting for years. It is hard to believe that in this enlightened age, many people still are ignorant about the value of spaying and neutering their pets. Talk it up, folks. You are our best messengers, and can be positive role models for others. You are the voice for cats who can't speak out for themselves.
