POSTED OCTOBER 24 2003: Go! Natural Pet Food Recalled

Friday October 24, 2003
PLEASE NOTE: THIS BLOG ENTRY WAS POSTED OCTOBER 24 2003. IT HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PET FOOD RECALL OF 2007

Petcurean, the Canadian manufacturer of Go! Natural Pet Food today announced the voluntary recall of all Go! Natural pet food manufactured in Texas. The recall followed reports of illness in cats and dogs on a diet of Go! Natural, with several deaths reported.

Consumers, veterinarians, pet agencies and breeders who have questions concerning recalled product are asked to call Michele Dixon at Petcurean toll free, 866-864-6112, extension 104. Consumers are also told to return the recalled product to the store where purchased, for a replacement or reimbursement.

I previously reviewed Go! Natural dry cat food and gave it a 5-star rating. It is also on my list of Top 10 Premium Dry Foods for cats. However, until this unfortunate situation is resolved, I would strongly suggest the discontinuation of feeding with Go! Natural, and I have added the recall links to my articles for the time being. I'll update this information as soon as more details are forthcoming from the manufacturer.

when was this voluntary recall? recently?? the article is dated 2003, but the consumer comments show 2007. Please update this to reflect current recalls due to the recent pet food scares

Pet food products made by Petcurean were not recalled. Their website http://www.petcurean.com>/b> has a letter on it dated 2 April, and updated 18 April and 16 May that states none of their foods were included in the recall.

The author may be referring to a voluntary recall in 2003 that the FDA documented on their website at http://www.fda.gov/cvm/CVM_Updates/petcureanrc.htm.

I have been feeding Go! Natural to my two cats who are ten and fifteen years old. They love it. I got it because it is lower in protein than several other diets like Innova’s Evo or Solid Gold.

The product was not recalled recently according to their website. They did have a voluntary recall in 2003.

The information on the website was last updated on 5/16/2007.

Tonya, Nicole, and Tom et al:

I cannot control new readers coming in and commenting to very old posts in my archives because they failed to see the DATE of the original blog post. However, I have edited it for the benefit of those who are too upset or too confused to see the date.

Franny;

Why not just take the page down?

It’s not a good practice for a number of reasons, Ted. It’s a matter of history, really, and I expect my readers to be attentive to notice the dates before jumping to conclusions (something I always practice when visiting other blogs).

Am I giving them too much credit? :)
