A Tribute to My Lost Children [January 25, 2004], by Jim Willis
Tuesday, January 25th marks the one-year anniversary of the tragic fire that took the home and fourteen of Jim Willis's babies - his rescued animal friends who shared his home and his love.
There are no words to describe the sorrow embedded within this kind of loss, but Jim, being the kind of man who he is, has transformed his sorrow into a higher purpose: that of continuing his work and encouraging others to do whatever they can do for the cause of homeless animals.
Jim knows no ugly animals. He sees beauty in every scar, every missing limb, every blinded eye. And as he transcends that which might at first glance seem ugly without, he inspires us to transcend our collective ugliness within, and to try to make humanity the race it should be. We owe that to ourselves, to our planet, and to the creatures that inhabit it. Jim himself asks for little in remembrance of his lost babies:
If you like, please light a candle in their memory or do something extra special for an animal; please give a rescued animal a good home if you can. Thank you.
