NFCD: October 16th

The third annual National Feral Cat Day will be coming up on October 16, 2003. Alley Cat Allies founded NFCD in 2001, and that organization is the hub around which feral cats TNR (trap-neuter-release) activities revolve. The goals of NFCD are, according to Alley Cat Allies,
  • to explain nonlethal control to segments of the public who do not know either the severity of feline over-population or the solution to it, but they know they don't want cats killed.
  • to enlighten animal welfare professionals who do not yet know, or care, about Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR).
  • to proclaim to their communities that TNR works.

  • If you are involved in managing a feral cat colony and want to participate officially in National Feral Cat Day activities, the ACA web site offers loads of supportive materials in their Action Pack page. As NFCD approaches, I'll be posting more information on feral cats, a profile of Alley Cat Allies, and a very special guest article by Stacy Mantle, author, rescuer, and animal advocate. If you are unaware of the huge feline overpopulation problem, it's time to open those baby blues. You can start with these two resource sections:
  • Spay & Neuter
  • TNR (Feral Cat Management)
