Cat Breed of the Week: Somali
Tuesday February 13, 2007
When you gaze upon the glorious coat of the Somali, you may find it hard to understand that Abyssinian breeders once were horrified to find longhaired kittens among their litters of pristine Abys. Fortunately, on two fronts, in Canada and in the U.S. a couple of people saw the potential for this beautiful cat, and the Somali was born.As a direct relative, the Somali shares the playful characteristics of the Aby, and can be just as clownlike and inquisitive as their shorthaired relative. Somalis, like the Abys, thrive on human companionship, and are very desirable as pets

Brandon is such a handsome kitty. He has such a beautiful color.
I have a 17 year old Red Somali, and used to have another, a Ruddy. Roger is the most loving, human-attached pet I’ve ever had. He is beautiful and playful even in his advanced years.
Thanks for posting Brandon’s picture, Franny! He’ll be so excited to see his face up in lights.
Cindy - he’s a ruddy. Was an accident that happened from his mom being temporarily boarded with another Somali at a cat show.
Allison - aren’t they the greatest cats ever? He’s is very much a one-person cat; human-attached is a good description! Although, he does tolerate my husband, probably because he gives him treats and catnip. But he hates everybody else. Especially little kids like my niece.
