Cat Video: Cat Asthma Attack

Wednesday March 21, 2007
This may be the longest one-minute video you'll ever watch. This is not a cat trying to cough up a hairball, as some may think. As a public service to educate cat owners, bunktrudy filmed his cat, Dave, in the throes of an asthma attack. Bunktrudy wants viewers to know that Dave's asthma is under control, and she is on medication (yes, Dave is a girl), although once or twice a year emergency vet treatment is needed.

If this film looks all too familiar, you will need to take your cat to the vet to eliminate feline asthma. With the arrival of Spring inevitably comes pollen, one of the most common allergens for feline (as well as human) asthma.

Maybe the cat is allergic to itself.

Hi, That was painful to watch and I am so sorry to see Dave is in such distress. But I also think it important to rule out any possibility of Heartworms. They can have similar symptoms and they are tragically deadly to our cats and kittens. A friends cat we thought initially had severe fur-balls, a cold or allergies and then lastly asthma. Well, it turned out we were wrong. It was actually Heartworms. There is a site http://www.knowheartworms.org/ all about this topic. It explains the Signs and Symptoms and more we need to look for Associated with HARD: Heartworm Associated Respiratory
Disease: Anorexia, blindness, collapse, convulsions, coughing, diarrhea
difficulty breathing, fainting, lethargy, rapid heart rate, sudden death, vomiting, weight loss.
Also there is a great site http://www.catwellness.org and
through http://www.goodnewsforpets.com there’s excellent and important information and tips available.

I really hope Dave is resting comfortably since you filmed that attack. Please pet her for us all!
