Menu Food Extends Pet Food Recall List to Include ALL dates
Monday March 26, 2007
In a press release issued March 24, 2007, Menu foods asked "all retail outlets to immediately remove all impacted varieties of wet pet food posted at www.menufoods.com , regardless of the date code." (My emphasis.)
The PR goes on to say, "Menu Foods remains concerned that consumers are able to purchase recalled items.
There is no known risk from items not listed on the recall list but an abundance of caution is called for in this situation. FDA has been apprised of this action."
The action was prompted by concern over reports from the FDA and certain media outlets that "recalled lots of 'cuts and gravy' style wet pet food remain on store shelves."
I hope this information helps clear up some of the confusion over contradictory information. While this press release is now shown on the Menu Foods web site, the recall lists themselves have not been updated, which is most likely because foods on that list are known to be suspect, while the recall of the additional lots is a precautionary recall. Also now on the Menu Food's web site are the Press Conference Introductory Remarks (March 23, 2007), and another press release, "Progress in Search for Cause of Pet Illnesses."
These document links will be archived in my Cat Food Recall Index, which is now included under my Essentials in the left-hand navigation bar.

Thank you for clearing this up. Given the contradictory news that hit this weekend, it’s been very confusing. I saw mention of AP issuing a retraction of their statement that the recall was expanded.
Are Special Kiity can foods on the recall?
i am still confused about dry pet foods. are any on any recall lists?
Hi Darla,
Yes, the Hills Feline M/D dry food was recalled today.
I start cooking for my cats tomorrow from recipes at this web site:http://www.cooksrecipes.com/category/pet-recipes.html
I can’t keep up with the amount of food that is being recalled, and until they get this mess straightened out, I don’t want to take a chance of hurting one of my cats.
I just rescued a small gray kitty, and how wonderful will that be if I give her something that will kill her? Too scary for words.
Good luck, everyone!
Pak + Save at 2550 Bell Rd., Auburn CA refused to pull AIM’s cat food off the shelf on 03-31-07. Mgr. said theirs is not contaminated. Their number is (530)887-3230. I sent their customer service a letter informing them. Please help by complaining to Safeway Foods. Thanks, Joan

My dog died March 15 and she was old so I thought it was old age. She ate Purina dry dog food, O’Roy Biscuits every AM and had a new big chew bone. She was not sick at all and acted like a puppy the day before.I am just puzzled as to all the recalls now
Possible Nutro “LITE” dry food contamination: I estimate this incident occurred in early February, 2007. I know it was before any of these poison stories hit the news. I bought one bag of Nutro’s “Lite” dry cat food, the type in the pink bag.
The food was purchased at a pet store in Mercer County, PA. Two of my three cats refused to eat it at first, but eventually at least nibbled at it. The one who will eat anything consumed full portions, and immediately experienced vomiting and diarrhea. On day 3, I decided something was wrong with that bag of food. I put them back on Nutro “Indoor” (I think it was Indoor Weight Management) in blue bag. No problems from observed from Indoor. The cat who had eaten the Lite continued to have digestive problems for almost 7 days but seems to have recovered completely. All three cats were observed drinking more water than usual. Two males, one female, neutered/spayed, healthy, indoor cats, age 4 1/2 years.
Thinking this food just didn’t agree with my housecats, I tried to feed the remaining Nutro Lite food to our barn cats. They are not choosy, but all refused the Lite. Presumably, the raccoons ate it. No raccoons have been observed on the premises lately.
I’ll report this to the FDA.
Is Friskies dry cat food on the list?
Friskies Dry Cat Food is NOT on the list.
Is there a list of cat food products under investigation as potentially poisonous?
We got some 9Lives canned chunk food, one cat died and the other won’t eat it.
Michael, the FDA web site does not list 9 Lives as being recalled. However, there are private labs doing research on various pet food products. I’ve seen complaints from consumers on other web sites about 9 Lives, but no concrete information.
Your best bet is to consult your veterinarian or your state’s association of veterinarian professionals.
This happened a year ago but still, it is disconcerting. The effects ranges from pet food allergies to as worse as cancer. Not to mention the emotional trauma that this may cause the owners. Until now, I still insist on not buying any commercial pet food and I think I never will.
Thank you,
Jolie
