Butch Has a New Forever Home!

I just love happy ending stories, and this one really warmed my heart. Our April 2007 Cat of the Month, Butch, is happily settling into his new forever home in Ohio. As regular readers will recall, When Butch was Cat of the Week, he had been caged in the Friends of Wayne Shelter in Wayne N.J. for over six months, and volunteer Linda Wade was hoping he would find a new home. As Linda wrote me, "I don't know why Butch is so special, he's really just an ordinary little guy, but he does deserve a lap, not a cage."After Butch won the Cat of the Month vote for April, many readers commented positively on the vote, with the general theme of "If I didn't live so far away..." One very special lady, Cheryl, who lives in Ohio, didn't let distance get in the way. She contacted FOWA by phone, and after interviews with the shelter directors, was approved to adopt Butch.
On July 21st, Cheryl flew to New Jersey, and returned home with Butch. Before he left for his forever home, FOWA threw a huge going-away party for this dear little cat. As you can see from the photo, Butch took his celebrity status in stride with typical feline aplomb. The cake's message was an understatement of the results of several months of loving care and hope for a better life for Butch.

In an email to the shelter, Cheryl said,

"The gentlemen at the airport ( I am so sorry I forgot his name) said to Butch when we transferred him to my carrier "Have a good life Butch" ............. I assure you that he will!"

Cheryl, I worked for a year at our local humane society, and I want to thank you for doing this. I can say I know just how those employees and volunteers felt when Butch went to his “forever home”. So relieved to see a wonderful cat finally go home! It’s great! Keep Butch safe and happy and get his checkups done once a year.

Cousteau says he is in high cat-spirits that his co-April-cat-of-the-month-finalist finally got the loving home he deserves. Cheryl, I know that Butch will never stop rewarding you with his love and gratefulness!

What an absolutely wonderful thing to happen - this has really made my day! Cheryl, thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking Butch home with you. I’m a newbie to this site, but it must be full of wonderful people, and I’m really going to enjoy getting to know all of you. I have four rescues myself, and they send Butch best fishes and love.
I am so happy that Butch found his new home. All animals deserve a good home. They are so loving. Thanks Cheryl for adopting him.

I am so glad to hear that Butch has found a forever home! He has been on my mind since his first picture was published, and I had emailed as many people in NJ that I could think of, hoping that someone would have it in their heart to adopt him. There are so many special cats out there that deserve what Butch now has: His forever home! I do cat rescue in Alaska, and we have sent cats (and dogs)to the lower 48 for their forever homes. There are some well traveled pets out there. Thanks Cheryl for adopting Butch, and thanks Franny for the great website and information.

Cheryl is my sister and you are right..SHE is ONE VERY SPECIAL LADY. You can rest assured Butch will live like a king in Ohio and will know never ending love for all his days. One very special kitty and one very special lady in one very special family live happily ever after in their forever home.
This is the sweetest story! Cheryl, you are a lady to be really admired and Butch looks like the nicest fellow ever. You are both very lucky people. May you have years of loved and happiness. My life has been completely different since I adopted from babies from the SPCA 2 yrs. ago. Way to go!!!
