FAQ of the Day: How do I determine the sex of a kitten?

Sunday September 9, 2007
A reader asks:

My cat slipped outside awhile back and recently had kittens. I'd like to keep one of the males before finding homes for the others. How do I determine the sex of a kitten?

The litter pictured here includes my Joey, the gray kitten at the right. The other two kittens are both females.

I think that you should keep your kittens. They are adorable! My three kittens and their mom are the best of friends. I couldn’t imagine separating them.

I agree with Donna. If you can keep them please do. Three years ago a feral mom came to our yard starving. After feeding her daily she brought her 3 kittens to us! We were floored. But kept them all and their mom. They turned out wonderful. All were spayed/neutered right off the bat. We now have the dad although he still is feral.
