Location and Activities:
Best Friend is a non-profit, volunteer pet adoption group in Cary, NC, which fosters dogs and cats until suitable permanent homes can be found. They hold Adopt-a-Thons every other Saturday, in conjunction with their local PetSmart.
Because of their commitment to helping animals in need, Best Friend also provides links on their web site to other adoption agencies in the Raleigh-Durham area of NC.
Cat Adoption:
Prior to adoption, Best Friends Cats have been:
- Evaluated for acceptance
- Examined by a veterinarian, and tested for FIV/FeLV
- Dewormed
- Received all necessary vaccinations up to the point of adoption
- Spayed or neutered (whenever possible)
- Cared for in a temporary foster home
Best Friends Pet Adoption always has dozens of cats and kittens available for adoption, and one of them would love to enrich your life, if you live in the area. You'll have to make a lifetime commitment, though, which is only fair. Many of these cats are here because their owners didn't want to bother with the care they needed, and the good folks at Best Friend are here to see that doesn't happen again.
Adoption Requirements:
- Twenty Year Commitment
- Veterinarian Care (Stay Current on All Vaccinations, Once a Year Checkup and Emergency Care when Necessary)
- Good, Quality Food
- Quality Play or Exercise Time
- Inside Only Homes
The appication form also has some searching questions - a "wrong" answer might disqualify you immediately (for good reasons).

How You Can Help:
Like most organizations of its type, Best Friends relies on donations (time, money, and supplies) to stay in operation. Even if circumstances prevent you from adopting a cat at present, you might want to consider sending them a donation. It couldn't go for a worthier cause. They have a "wish list" linked from their main page.
