How can I help my nearly-naked cat?

By Franny Syufy, About.com

Question: How can I help my nearly-naked cat?

Answer: The Rest of Your Question:
My cat was fine until we moved into a new mobile home, but two or three months later she started scratching and licking all over her body. She gets a lot of hairballs but hairball control food helps a lot. But she has started losing hair in her lower stomach, the back part of her legs, and near the top of her chest. She is 5 years old and very sweet and loving and gets a lot of attention. How can I help my nearly-naked cat?

Your kitty needs to be seen by a veterinarian. Compulsive licking usually results from some kind of skin irritation, including fleas, and your vet can prescribe either oral or topical meds to help her.

Please don't delay, or she will indeed be hairless.
