PetPocket2 is one of the most useful inventions I've seen for hands-free travel with your cat. I wish we could have had one almost two years ago when we first adopted Jaspurr and Joey. the carrier comes in a plush print velour, black nylon mesh, or the rugged but handsome nylon we chose in black. The carrier is a "pocket" resembling an open lunch sack, with a sturdy flat bottom and a toggle-closing drawstring at the neck opening for snug security. A safety ring and clip attaches to a collar or harness (I strongly suggest a harness), to prevent escape. The "human part" of the carrier attaches much like a front-loading baby carrier, with wide, padded nylon cross-over straps and a waist belt that adjusts to 48 inches (so even the most rotund cat moms or dads can enjoy outings with their furkids).
We selected the small size (which accomodates pets up to 9.5 pounds) for Billy, but in retrospect, knowing how quickly kittens grow, I'd buy the medium size. After some initial anxiety, Billy quickly adjusted to this new environment, and most of the time settled down entirely inside the pocket and snoozed.
After several outings, Billy has become quite a seasoned traveller in his PetPocket2, and all of us are looking forward to our next trip. I'd suggest just taking short walks with your cat in the carrier for starters. Also, PetPocket2 is not recommended as a carrier in a car. It might be okay if the human is in the rear set and safely buckled in, but in the front seat there's a distinct danger if an air bag should inflate. Best bet is to use a standard carrier for transportation, then transfer your cat to the PetPocket2 before continuing your outing on foot. Make the transfer safely behind the closed doors of your vehicle to prevent escape.
We found PetPocket2 at our local PetSmart store, but they can be purchased at other dealers and on the Internet. The manufacturer, Global Pet Products, provides a list of online dealers.
