Part 3: The Plan

In the past four years, I have seen and participated in a number of humane causes, some with more successful results than others. While individuals and organizations involved have always worked indefatigably, it seems that sometimes we are all working parallel to each other, in many cases duplicating work, although perhaps to different audiences. I.E., someone will write an article, encouraging letters, phone calls, emails; someone else will write a similar article, etc., and much crosslinking will occur, although to very similar content. I admit being as guilty as anyone else, in participating in the "parallel phenomenon."

However, getting the kind of law I'm proposing passed in one state, let alone 50, is a humongous project, and will undoubtedly take years to accomplish. For that reason, I'm proposing a bit of a different organizational tack than has previously been tried, and am just throwing out thoughts here, for starters. I encourage and welcome suggestions from other animal advocates and groups.

What if?

What if one email list, BB group or organization were to tackle the soliciting of celebrities to promote the cause? A second group would organize and handle a petition. A third group would contact the print media, another, radio and TV stations. Someone would act as liaison to AVAR, someone else to CFA (both organizations have policies against declawing)

Obviously, there is plenty of work to go around, and each target task could be performed by more than one individual or group. But with organization and accountability, it seems to me that a lot more could be accomplished in a shorter time.

At the same time, everyone involved would be encouraging their peers to write, phone, and email their own congresspeople, as well as local media. This has always been the backbone of successful causes.

Brainstorming

Let's do some brainstorming here. The above suggestions are just the tip of the iceberg. I'd like to see a list of organizations that might be counted on to help, either through Internet promotion, or lobbying activities. Another list of forums and online bulletin boards, whose members might want to participate. A third list of celebrities known to love animals, who might help to promote the cause.

I've said enough for now, and hope to hear from you. As my dearest friend would say, "I'm open to more better-gooder ideas."
