These fragile, delicate cats descended from a litter of otherwise normal Siamese kittens in Canada, in 1966, although other cases have occurred in Australia, Morocco and France. They have very short, fine hair resembling down, thus giving the "hairless" look. Sphynx cats are sensitive to cold and dampness, and need regular care to protect their skin and fragile coat. Since feline allergens are present in the dander and saliva of a cat, Sphynx are not entirely allergen-free.
