Hip Dysplasia

Definition: Noun. A congenital disease of the hip joint where the "ball" develops excess connective tissue which causes a poor fit within the socket. The result is an increasing dislocation (dysplasia) of the joint over time. Although long recognized in dogs, hip dysplasia has only recently been studied in cats, and certain breeds may be more prone to the condition.
