Neuter

By Franny Syufy, About.com

Definition: Verb. The surgical removal of the testicles of a male animal. (Also known as orchidectomy.) It is also used generically when referring to both male and female cats.

Neutering has a number of positive effects: the cat will be less inclined to roam, less apt to fight over females, and the huge feline overpopulation crisis can be averted if everyone neuters their male cats and spays their females.

Pronunciation: new-turAudio Link
Also Known As: orchectomy, castration, fix, alter, "tutor" (Cats Forum version)
Common Misspellings: nueter
Examples:
Our very first rule with a new cat is that he must be neutered without delay.
