 Tao
"This is the story of 'Tao' an extraordinary Siamese cat. He is the grandson of the famous 'Tao,' who was the cat filmed in the movie, The Incredible Journey.
My sister and myself acquired Tao whilst I was Public Health Nurse, covering the Gulf Islands in British Columbia Canada. One day, whilst filling up with gas at Ganges boat yard, the owner approached me and said, 'Nurse Macleod, you have something in your car belonging to me,' Needless to say, I was flabergasted, wondering what on earth is he talking about. Phil said look in the back seat; there all sprawled out was this beautiful Siamese. He said would you like that cat; of course I said, 'You are joking!' ',No' he replied. 'You see, we are looking for a good home for Tao, since he was born totally deaf, and we are a bit scared of losing him, since he jumps on the boats and one day he might just sail off and get lost. To date a few people have had to sail back with him!'
We did decide to adopt Tao. No need to say, he found his way back (to the boat yard) on many occasions, in spite of keeping him indoors; perhaps he had his grandfathers wanderlust!
At one time the Canadian mounted police arrived at the door and said, 'Your cat is up on top of the Church steeple and won't come down.' I told them, 'No wonder, he is totally deaf and can't hear you.' They immediately got in touch with the fire department, got all the equipment and up they went and rescued Tao.
Again grounded! A few weeks later he was rescued and was put in a cell at the local police station! Phone call: 'Come and get your property!'
I was being transferred to another Health Office in Prince George B.C., packed all up, needless to say. Tao was in the back seat; he was leaving his beautiful Salt Spring Island, wondering what is in store! We arrived and got settled, this time it was an apartment so Tao was strictly indoors. Can't say he was too pleased."
