So many cats, so few homes

Cats who depend on volunteers for loving care

Franny Syufy
I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter...the cast-offs of human society.
I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness and betrayal.
And I was angry.
"God," I said, "this is terrible! Why don't you do something?"
God was silent for a moment and then He spoke softly.
"I have done something," He replied.
"I created You."

Franny's Note: This small piece moved me to tears when I first read it. It has become a beacon of strength for hundreds of selfless workers in animal shelters, rescue organizations, and other volunteers for animals. I had seen it reproduced on a number of sites, but hadn't been able to track down the author. My most heartfelt thanks to author Jim Willis for sharing it with my readers.

"Beloved of Bast" and "The Animals' Savior" are both now featured in Jim's book, "Pieces of My Heart - Writings Inspired by Animals and Nature" available in both the USA and UK. This book has also been reviewed by your Guide to Cats.
