Cat Picture of the Week: Barney,
Barney, Photo Credit: © Phyllis Loeffler

"Barney Boo Boo" is the second of my four red kittles. In the spring of 1999, he came running down the street about 10:30 one night. My neighbor & I were standing in the front yard. She is also a cat lover & he followed her home. The next morning, he was on my back porch, waiting to be fed with the others. He was probably about 2 months old and was in good condition. I think that someone had just dumped him at the end of the street, and he ran to the only people he saw.

My husband saw him & it was instant love. "Barney Boo Boo" was almost identical to a very sweet "Barney" that had crossed the rainbow bridge a few years prior. They were alike in looks only. He has mellowed a lot with age, but he's still pretty fiesty.

His favorite pasttime is going for a ride. When we get in the truck or car, if he's close by, he jumps in. We take him around the block, then pull up in front of the house, where he gets out. If the weather is cool, I'll take him to the grocery store with me, if I'm only going to be a few minutes. He will not try to get out if we're not home. He used to hide in the floor until I got back. Now he sits on the console & watches people go by. He also likes to go to the drive through windows at fast food places & the bank.

Cats Pictures of the Week are selected from general photo submittals. Barney's photo was submitted for - and also appears in the December 2007 Red Cats Gallery. Barney is a rescue with "The Right Stuff" and I love his laid-back look of this photo with just a hint of "annoyance ears." Phyllis has three other red cats among her 10, and I think they were all rescues.

There is still a little time to send in your photo for this year's December Cat Calendar. Please observe the Photo Submittal Guidelines. Sorry, but I can't legally use photos without all the requested information.

Remember that not only the quality of the picture, but the care you take in describing your cat may make the difference in its being chosen as Cat of the Week!
