Melinda, our tortie/tabby was adopted from a pet store which specializes in assisting the local SPCA with their pet adoptions. She was the first adoption from the newest store location near our home and the fame has "gone to her head". Everyone needs to cuddle her or rock her like an infant. When someone visits Melinda will greet them if the local bug population doesn't have her attention. She seems so greatful for her new home that we get nearly daily "gifts" of any bug or rodent that may have crossed her path. As well, Melinda has "taken over" certain parts of our home, much to her new "sister's" disgust. It took some time but they have each established their own zones.

Our tortie and white, Keeko was adopted at the local animal hospital after she was given up for adoption. Her former owners thought she was a handful but some TLC changed that. Now she is a valued member of our family and somewhat of a celebrity. People come to the house just to visit her and she has visited the daycare I work at. Everyone knows Keeko! At nearly six Keeks is ready to relax and cuddle her days away. However, she still has lots of vocal talent which makes her presence known.

A visit to our home requires any visitor to acknowledge our girls. Keeko howls and opens at the "treat" cupboard while Melinda patiently waits close by for her share. After their snack it is time for the pats, cuddles and conversations. Both cats love attention and vistors so much that we have taken them on trips to pet stores, parks, church and other kitty approved places. Many people can't imagine a cat on a leash, so 2 is a rare occurance. (We won't mention that they have custom coats as well ) Melinda and Keeko draw attention where ever they are; just as they like it!

Cats Pictures of the Week are selected from general photo submittals. Melinda and Keeko's photo was submitted for - and will also appear in the November Tortoiseshell Gallery. I love the enthusiastic way Kinley writes about her girls, and thought the photo adorable.

You may send your own photo, using the guidelines on the Photo Submittal page. Be sure to write a paragraph or so about the cat, at least two or three sentences. Our galleries have space for 2500 characters, including spaces, so don't be afraid to tell us about your cat within those parameters.

Remember that not only the quality of the picture, but the care you take in describing your cat may make the difference in its being chosen as Cat of the Week!
