Minnie Rose is our part Siamese cat that we adopted from a 'shelter'. She is 2 years and 4 months old, and a pure delight- well usually. She does delight in finding ways to capture our attention.

She was 8 weeks old when we adopted her, and since we also have a 16 year-old cat, at night we would put her in the laundry room with her food, water, and litter box and tell her 'good night'. This gave Georgie (old cat) time to roam the house without a black and white banshee leaping out at her. Within a month or so, Minnie Rose started coming up to my husband around ten o'clock at night, gently nipping him on the hand. Since he was the one who shut her in at night, we soon caught on that she wanted to be 'tucked in bed'. This kept up for months. When we tried leaving her door open, she would come out and get him to come back and shut her door.

By the time she was ten months old, we decided this had to stop. After all, we couldn't stay home all the time, because, we had to be home to tuck the cat in, could we? It did take a few weeks to change her habit. She would even come in our bedroom and try to coax us to come shut her door. I finally put a small fleece blanket on the foot of our bed, and I'd put her on that and say, "Good Night, Minnie." It only took a couple of night for her to catch on - she knows a good thing when she sees it! Now, she peacefully snoozes away, while Georgie 'old cat' plays with all those super toys that Minnie Rose enjoys during the daytime.

Cats Pictures of the Week are selected from general photo submittals. (I do not accept photos submitted specifically for "Cat Picture of the Week.") Minnie's picture was submitted as a general submittal, and will later also be added to the Tuxedo Gallery. I fell in love with this photo, which was described aptly as "Minnie the Clown." Those huge green eyes are to love. The story about a kitten who asked to be "tucked into bed" also played a large role in Minnie's selection.

You may send your own photo, using the guidelines on the Photo Submittal page. Be sure to write a paragraph or so about the cat, at least two or three sentences. Our galleries have space for 2500 characters, including spaces, so don't be afraid to tell us about your cat within those parameters.

Remember that not only the quality of the picture, but the care you take in describing your cat may make the difference in its being chosen as Cat of the Week!
